U13 Girls Fire are Colorado State Cup CHAMPIONS!!!!!

The Mesa County Board Commissioners declared June 14, 2010 '97 "Fire FC Girls
'97 Premier Day" in Mesa County.  The official day celebrates the '97 girls 2010
Colorado State Cup Championship, their athletic accomplishments, leadership 
and outstanding representation of our community throughout Colorado and the
United States.  The Commissioners congratulated the team on their success and
wished for the best of luck in the Far West Regionals Tournament.  Each player 
received a copy of the official proclamation signed by the Commissioners.

FIRE FC PLAYERS INVITED BACK TO OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CAMP

The United States Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) held its annual regional camp at the University of Idaho the past two weeks.  The camp is held to continue developing and identifying top players throughout the western United States.  12 states reaching from Hawaii to Colorado sent their top 32 Olympic prospects to train and be evaluated by regional coaches.  Six players from the Fire FC Premier ’97 girls team that recently won the Colorado State Championship were invited as Colorado ODP particpants:  Elie Borszich, Courtney Coffey, Samantha Melchor, Taylor Chaffetz, Baseley McClaskey and Leah Swander.   

At the completion of camp Baseley McClaskey and Leah Swander were invited back for Select Camp, which further narrowed the participant pool to only 40 players from the western region.  Both McClaskey and Swander will now return to Moscow, Idaho at the end of July to train and be evaluated by ODP staff as they continue to identify players for national team selections.

“ODP camp is an amazing opportunity for young players to meet, play and train with the best players and coaches in the west,” said Fire FC Coach Alex Chaffetz. He added, “Now Baseley McClaskey and Leah Swander have earned an opportunity to continue being evaluated for under-14 national team participation.  An invitation to camp is an amazing accomplishment.  Being invited back now gives Baseley and Leah an opportunity to compete for a spot on the national stage.”
